The Office of the Vice-President Academic invites you to a "Celebration of Island Studies" on Wednesday, May 21, from 3:00-4:30 pm in the Faculty Lounge, Main Building.

The Honourable Gail Shea, Canada鈥檚 Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, will be at 海角社区 on Wednesday, May 21 at 11:00 am to announce the creation and awarding of a new Tier 1 Canada Research Chair, held by Dr. Kate Tilleczek.
The event will be held in the Credit Union Day Lounge of 海角社区鈥檚 W.A. Murphy鈥�
As part of the Festival preceding the combined gala for the PEI Book Awards and the Atlantic Book Awards May 21, there will be a panel discussion by non-fiction nominees John Flood 鈥� editor (The Master鈥檚 Wife: The Book and the Place), Earle Lockerby (Diaries of the Acadian Deportations, No. 1:鈥�
PEI history comes to life in this first ever PEI weather trivia calendar of 365 stories about Prince Edward Island weather and its impact on Islanders鈥� everyday life. This calendar brings stories from North Cape to East Point, West Point to Murray Head 鈥� and all points in-between over the past 150鈥�
The future of the Island鈥檚 water supply will be the subject of an upcoming public symposium at the 海角社区. In light of recent concern about increased pressure on our groundwater resources by urban, industrial, and agricultural use, this event is a timely one.

The R.G. Thomson Lecture is an endowed annual lecture that honours AVC's founding dean. The lecture will be presented by Dr. Jonna Mazet, University of California, Davis. Dr. Mazet's lecture, "Rising to the Research Challenge: new approaches for identifying emerging infectious diseases and鈥�
In celebration of the graduate studies program, will be held on Thursday and Friday, May 15 and 16, 2014, in AVC's Lecture Theatre A.
Students will present their recent research findings (or their research plans if they are new students) in animal health research, fish health and marine research鈥�
Come see some of the marvels of the night sky through our 8-inch telescope at the 海角社区 observatory. Potential viewing objects include the Moon, planets, nebulae, and galaxies. Volunteers from the Charlottetown Centre of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (RASC) and the 海角社区 Physics鈥�

Faculty Recognition Night Takes place on May 7 Faculty Recognition Night will be held Wednesday, May 7, beginning at 7:00 pm (reception at 6:30 pm) at the Culinary Institute. This event honours the winners of the Hessian Award for Excellence in Teaching and the 海角社区 Merit Award for Scholarly鈥�
All faculty and staff are invited to attend a 鈥淐elebration of Colleagues鈥� on Wednesday, May 7 from 2:00鈥�4:00 pm, in McMillan Hall, W.A. Murphy Student Centre. The 25-Year Service Awards and the Presidential Awards of Merit will be presented during the celebration.
Athletics & Recreation will be providing yoga every Wednesday from 12:10 鈥� 12:55 pm at the 海角社区 Chaplaincy Centre for 海角社区 students and staff. During the summer months, the class will move outdoors to the Quad area, weather permitting.
